New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is an experience for the ages. To put it bluntly, things can get wild on The Las Vegas Strip, with hundreds of thousands of revelers frolicking about the casinos, nightclubs, and even the streets of this destination.
Officially, the draw to The Strip is the fireworks at midnight, with the pyrotechnics launching from multiple casino roofs. Revelers who score a room–with some price tags higher than the top floor of The Cosmopolitan towers–can get a bird’s eye view from up in the sky. But the show is designed to be seen on the ground, and anyone on the Strip can simply look up and be enveloped by the spectacular show all around them.
The city stops traffic from Las Vegas Boulevard, starting from Mandalay Bay at the south to around the Stratosphere at the north, giving people the right-of-way on foot to walk the streets. Carrying “open containers” (translation: alcoholic beverages in public) is legal in Las Vegas, so be prepared for a crowd the size of a small city to descend on The Strip, with some sort of a glittery kazoo or other noisemaker in hand.

1. Go for a ride on the High Roller
Get up close and personal with the fireworks inside an enclosed car on this beautiful observation wheel, on the eastern edge of The Strip. Rides on NYE can include an open bar with a bartender.
2. Zumanity by Cirque du Solei
This pan-sexual, and very erotic, Cirque show features special surprises for NYE audiences. The show ends early enough to hit the strip and see the fireworks.
3. Hard Rock Hotel
The Hard Rock is where Las Vegas locals go to party, and this place is always simply a class act. Just off the strip on the southeastern corner, it features an excellent view of the fireworks, and great DJ’s to boot.
4. Downtown Las Vegas
If you would rather skip the celebrity DJ’s and see some real bands, go to downtown Las Vegas to the Fremont Street Experience. Although there won’t be as much of a view of fireworks, under the covered pedestrian walkway, you will be treated to the sights of Elvis impersonators and big-haired rock bands who really are great.
5. Celebrate on The Strip
The whole strip opened up like a block party with several hundred thousands of your new best friends. At midnight, the casinos spark a huge fireworks display that light up the desert sky like a billion candles. If jubilant crowds are not your thing, watch it from a hotel room overlooking The Strip or from a rooftop club. Whatever, just don’t miss this once in a lifetime spectacle.
